The English Journal on Student Choice and Teaching the How.

In this article, Beth Wilson gives a personal look at her classroom practices and describes how she employs student lead learning and student choice education. Along with these themes, she also discusses her position on teaching the How instead of the What. This article correlates with my own teaching methods and practices.

Talking about books and Reading

This is a great article from The English Journal that gives a great insight into being a role model for reading. It explains why talking about books and being a reader influences students to do the same. I believe in this concept because it is why I became excited about books.

Lesson Plan Example: Poetry

This is an example of a great activity to practice talking about poetry and using the vocabulary about poetry. I would have the students listen to the song, then work alone for about ten minutes. Once they've jotted down their initial thoughts they will pair up and discuss it further. After a sound discussion, we would share as a class and talk through their ideas. As a follow up to this activity, I would ask them to create a poem using one verse or chorus as a guild.

Lesson Plan Example: French Music with Handout

This is a wonderful lesson plan about French music to give students a chance to be imersed in a bit of French culture. I would lead them through a good preview of each song and then guild them through the practice of writing their own song. I, however would change some of the songs to some easier to understand and would provide lyrics.
